Radio Relay Systems

Overview

Overview

Radio relay terminals and antenna systems form an important part of Leonardo’s product range. Our products reach from radio relay terminals to antenna systems and ensure secure tactical communication between military troops in the field over long distances up to 50km, so called Wide Area Networks (WAN).

Radio Relay Terminals

The MH500 series is a new-generation of radio relay terminals designed to support tactical communication systems. It meets the need for high-capacity, mobile, radio-based networks to meet the increasing demand for traffic capacity and the need to provide reliable data transmission services in support of Command & Control applications facing the continuous narrowing of the available RF spectrum. In addition, it also satisfies the need for backward compatibility with EUROCOM radio relay terminals.

Antenna Systems

Antenna Systems

Leonardo offers antenna systems for different frequencies designed for stationary or mobile applications. Our main products are the MHA 513e, operating in NATO Band III+ (1350-2690 MHz) and the MHA 544, operating in NATO Band IV (4400-5000 MHz). Both systems are optimized for use in conjunction with the MH500 radio relay terminals. While both systems offer quick snap connection for easy mounting and fast dismantling, the MHA544 also provides a polarization switch, which can be used during operation to improve signal stability and ensure an optimum use of the provided bandwidth.

SDR Handheld Radio

Based on experience gained during various national and international programs such as JTRS (US) and ESSOR (EU), Leonardo has developed the tactical SWave™ SDR handheld radio.

All variants are based on the same handheld device and are capable of simultaneously transmitting voice communications and data.

Lightning protection

Lightning protection

To protect our Radio Relay System from High Voltage damage caused by lightning, Leonardo developed a specific lightning protection device for incoming coaxial cables (N-Type). It operates in a frequency range from 0-18 GHz and features a multiple nondestructive lightning protection due to the special design of the device.
